Horse racing & greyhounds

Racing is where full-cover bets were born in the betting shop, and a Lucky 15 or a Yankee on a day’s card is still the classic use. The section explains the racing terms that change such a bet.

Each-way doubles the stake of every line, because every line becomes a win part and a place part; a Yankee each way is therefore 22 bets. Starting price, ante-post, non-runners and the Rule 4 deduction affect the return, and horse and greyhound tips sit alongside.

Racing has its own tax line: remote bets on UK horse racing keep the 15% General Betting Duty rate after the general remote rate becomes 25% on 1 April 2027, and Pool Betting Duty is 15%.
